Republishing our content

Our mission is to produce great journalism that serves the public and holds those in power accountable.  That’s why we want our great reporting to serve communities and be widely read. The Center for Public Integrity is open to other organizations republishing some of our content. Any story that says “This content is available for republishing,” can be republished, as long as you abide by our Creative Commons license and the following terms:

  1. Cite the Center for Public Integrity as the original source. At the beginning of the story, include a byline credit and a line that reads, “This article was originally published by the Center for Public Integrity, a nonprofit investigative news organization based in Washington, D.C.” A hyperlink for “article” must link to the original URL of the story. The link for “Center for Public Integrity” must link to our homepage. 
  2. Do not change the original language on our stories, except to reflect references to time, location or editorial style. If you publish our story online, include all of the story’s links, including links to our newsletters and any other Public Integrity calls-to-action.
  3. Photo rights are not automatically included in the republication of our material. They are granted on a case-by-case basis.  Photos from other media organizations, such as Getty Images or the Associated Press, require separate permissions from those organizations directly. If you would like to republish photos or illustrations credited to Public Integrity, please contact media@publicintegrity.org to inquire about permission.
  4. You may republish other material, such as data graphics, video and audio that accompany our stories. They may only be used with the stories in which they were originally published.
  5. Unless explicitly stated, Public Integrity is not responsible for content found on blogs, platforms, or websites that reblog or repost content by us. Public Integrity does not endorse blogs, websites, bloggers, journalists or writers who reblog or repost works available on Public Integrity.
  6. Please feel free to share our content on social media. Tag Public Integrity when sharing our stories on your social channels. We are @Publicintegrity on Twitter and Instagram and @publici for Facebook.
  7. Do not translate our stories into another language without our permission.
  8. Advertisements you’ve already sold may accompany our stories on your site, but do not sell ads against our stories or on behalf of Public Integrity.
  9. Do not ask for donations on behalf of Public Integrity or imply that donations to your organization support Public Integrity.
  10. Do not sell or syndicate our content. This includes publishing or syndicating our work on platforms such as Apple News.
  11. Be judicious in your use of our work. You may not engage in the wholesale republication of our work, but rather must select individual stories for republication.
  12. You can’t use our material to populate a website designed to improve rankings on search engines or solely to gain revenue from network-based advertisements.
  13. Please retain the publicintegrity.org canonical URL on your story page whenever possible.
