Introduction
Starting in August, Missouri politicians can accept checks as big as they want, from whomever they want, whenever they want. Republican Governor Matt Blunt signed a bill last week that rolls back campaign contribution limits for state races, The Associated Press reports.
Just five other states — Illinois, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, and Virginia — do not limit campaign contributions in any way, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Missouri’s not doing so hot on keeping private interests out of politics. In the Center’s investigation of states’ personal financial disclosure laws, Missouri scored a D on requirements for the executive branch and a C on requirements for the legislature.
