Susan Ferriss joined the Center in 2011, where she has covered immigration, criminal justice and education. As a Cox Newspapers Latin America correspondent, Susan won Overseas Press Club and Inter-American Press Association honors for reports on failed promises of Mexican economic reforms. She also covered immigration at the Sacramento Bee, co-wrote The Fight in the Fields, about Cesar Chavez, and produced The Golden Cage, a film about farmworkers. Susan’s “Criminalizing Kids” reports changed school policies and won honors from Columbia University, the Online Journalism Association and the Radio Television Digital News Association. Her reporting on immigrants at Idaho dairies won a regional Edward R. Murrow prize. A Stanford Knight fellow, Susan has a BA in Latin American Studies and an MA in Journalism from the University of California at Santa Cruz and Berkeley.
