Third annual Arab investigative journalism conference

Introduction

Our colleagues at the Arab Reporters for Investigative Journalism (ARIJ) are staging their third annual conference in Amman, Jordan, November 26-28, 2010.

Over 200 journalists, editors and university academics from 16 countries will attend and share experiences with top international award-winning journalists like Morocco’s Ahmed Reda Benchamsi, founder and publisher of the independent liberal weekly magazines TelQuel and Nichane, as well as Egypt’s newspaper publisher and democracy activist Hisham Qassem. Also scheduled is Yosri Fouda, investigative TV journalist who launched al Jazeera’s “Top Secret,” before becoming editor in chief and presenter for “The Last Word” on Cairo-based ONTV.

Other speakers include: Dr. Mark Hunter (USA) principal author and editor of the ARIJ manual; Tim Sebastian (UK), chairman of the “Doha Debates” and former presenter of BBC’s “Hardtalk”; Lina Makboul (Sweden); Justin Arenstein (South Africa); Miki Mistrati (Denmark); and Dumitru Lazur (Moldova.). ICIJ members Fredrik Laurin, Drew Sullivan (USA) director for the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Centre; and Paul Radu (Romania) author of “Follow the Money: A Digital File for Tracking Corruption,” will also speak.

ARIJ is the region’s first and only media network supporting in-depth reporting.
